Rohit Sharma becomes second Indian cricketer to join elite T20 list

Rohit Sharma completed 12,000 runs in T20 cricket. He became the second Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli to achieve the feat. He reached the milestone in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Hyderabad:

Mumbai Indians batter Rohit Sharma completed 12,000 runs in T20 cricket. He became the second Indian after Virat Kohli to hold the record. He has scored 4231 runs in T20Is, and the rest of the runs were scored in the IPL and the Champions League.

Notably, Rohit was under tremendous pressure leading to the IPL as he was struggling with form. He had a poor start to the cash-rich league as well but in the previous match against Chennai Super Kings, Rohit returned to form, scoring an important half-century. Courtesy of his knock and Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century, Mumbai won the match by nine wickets.

Against SRH, he once again played a brilliant knock, completing his half-century in 35 balls. Batting first, Hyderabad had a horrid time as openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma made 0 and 8, respectively. Batting at three, Ishan Kishan made only one but his dismissal was extremely controversial as the keeper-batter decided to walk back to the dressing room despite not hitting the ball.

Hyderabad were reduced to 35/5 at one stage but Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar rescued the team. The South Africa international smashed 71 runs off 44 balls while Manohar scored 43 off 37. Courtesy of their knocks, Hyderabad managed to score 143/8 in the first innings. Trent Boult managed to clinch four wickets.

In the second innings, Mumbai looked to be in control for the entire time and are on course for their fourth straight win of the season.
