PM Modi holds delegation-level talks with Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani at Hyderabad House


Upon his arrival in India on Monday, Qatar Amir met External Affairs Minister S Jashankar. PM Modi and the Amir are slated to hold bilateral talks on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad AL Thani at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Amir of Qatar, who is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials and business leaders, is having a wide-ranging delegation-level talks with PM Modi later in the day. Earlier, Amir also received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. President Droupadi Murmu and Amir introduced their respective countries’ ministers and delegations to each other. 

Jaishankar meets Qatar Amir

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on the Amir, who is on a two-day visit to India, hours after his arrival in New Delhi on Monday. Jaishankar expressed confidence, saying the visiting leader’s talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday will “deepen our close bonds of friendship.”

In a rare special gesture, PM Modi went to the airport to receive Amir. His visit comes at the invitation of PM Modi. This would be the second state visit of the Amir of Qatar to India. He earlier visited India in March 2015, the MEA earlier said.

India and Qatar on Tuesday also exchanged an agreement on the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries.

The documents were exchanged between PM Modi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and the Amir of Qatar in New Delhi.

India and Qatar enjoy deep-rooted historical ties

India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties of friendship, trust and mutual respect. In recent years, the ties between the two countries, including in the areas of trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people relations, have continued to strengthen, the MEA earlier said. 

As the two leaders held talks at the Hyderabad House, the MEA in a post on X said, a “new milestone” was on the cards of this “special India-Qatar partnership”.
