Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on Monday morning to provide a briefing on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. This high-level meeting comes a day after Singh met with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan to discuss the military’s countermeasures in response to the attack, which left 26 people dead on April 22.

Earlier on Sunday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh assured the public that the situation in the region is under constant monitoring by Prime Minister Modi. Singh emphasised that the Prime Minister is personally overseeing the developments and ensuring appropriate action is taken against the terrorists responsible for the attack. He also reassured the public that there is no need for panic, stating that under Modi’s leadership, the government is committed to taking all necessary steps in the best interests of the people.
“This is a very painful incident, and PM Modi has taken serious cognisance of it. He is personally monitoring the situation,” Singh remarked. He highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Home Ministry and the Defence Ministry to assess the situation and make informed decisions based on strategic inputs.
The Pahalgam attack, which targeted tourists, has heightened security concerns in the region, and the government is focusing on ensuring safety in the aftermath. The Ministry of Defence is working in close coordination with the armed forces to develop a comprehensive response plan to counter any further threats from militant groups operating in the region.
Singh also visited Udhampur, where he met with local representatives and citizens to review security arrangements. His visit underscored the government’s priority of maintaining peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in light of the recent tragic events.
The government has vowed to take decisive and measured action to address the threats posed by terrorist organisations and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and visitors in the region.
