India, Pakistan to extend confidence-building measures after recent DGMO talks: Indian Army

The Indian Army announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to extend confidence-building measures (CBMs) following a recent understanding between their Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) on May 10.

New Delhi:

The Indian Army on Friday said that in line with the talks held between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan on May 10, the two sides have agreed to continue implementing confidence-building measures (CBMs) aimed at reducing alertness levels along the Line of Control (LoC) and other sensitive sectors. In a brief statement, the Indian Army said, “Further to the understanding reached between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan on 10 May 2025, it has been decided to continue confidence-building measures to reduce the alertness levels.”

The DGMOs of India and Pakistan on Monday held talks over a dedicated hotline to discuss ways to prevent ‘inimical’ military actions and consider immediate steps to reduce troop deployments along the borders and forward areas. The nearly 45-minute conversation took place two days after the two sides reached an understanding to halt all military actions, following four days of intense hostilities that had seen the two countries exchange fire using drones, missiles, and long-range weapons, raising concerns of a broader military conflict.

According to an Indian readout, the two military leaders focused on maintaining a commitment not to fire a ‘single shot’ or initiate any ‘aggressive and inimical’ action against each other. The talks, initially scheduled for noon, eventually began at around 5 pm, with both sides reportedly discussing measures to avoid further escalation.

While the specifics of the latest CBMs remain unclear, the understanding comes as part of a broader effort to stabilise the region, where ceasefire violations have often triggered larger conflicts. Both sides are expected to assess the impact of these measures in the coming months, with potential follow-up talks likely to address more comprehensive issues, including counter-terrorism cooperation and broader border management.

The recent de-escalation comes after India’s Operation Sindoor, which saw precise strikes on suspected terror infrastructure in Pakistan earlier this month. The strikes, carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, reportedly targeted several key Pakistani military installations, including air bases, air defense systems, command and control centers, and radar sites. Despite some violations by Pakistan on May 10, the following nights have been described as largely peaceful, marking a temporary pause in hostilities.
