India on Monday banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for disseminating provocative and communally sensitive content, false and misleading narratives and misinformation. The action was taken on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The MHA released a list of channels that were banned, including popular Pakistani news channels Dawn News and Geo News.
It also conveyed “strong sentiments” about a news article on Pahalgam terror attack published by the BBC and said that a formal letter has been written to them over the terming of terrorists as “militants”. It said that the reporting of the BBC will be monitored.
In a separate incident of fraud, an investigation has also been launched for reported suspicious activities of Lucknow’s Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK), which allegedly was linked with the generation of fake IDs for Pakistani nationals who have been asked to leave India, after the Centre revoked their visas.
The intensified actions across all platforms come after the dastardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, which claimed 26 lives, most of whom were tourists. Several people were left injured. Major search operations have been launched in Jammu and Kashmir and the Central Government has taken stern measures in the aftermath of the attack.
In the wake of the attack, tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan, with troops of Islamabad initiating “unprovoked” firing along the LoC, violating the ceasefire. The Indian Army has been promptly retaliating.
