Mukesh Khanna is the latest celebrity to come down heavily against the teaser of Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’. The veteran actor, who played the role of Bhishma in TV show ‘Mahabharat’ has expressed his displeasure against ‘Adipurush’ in a YouTube video.
“Not everyone may agree with me, but Hindu Gods are not handsome like (Arnold) Schwarzenegger. They are not bodybuilders, they have a soft, docile, and grand look on their faces. No one can claim they met Ram ji or Krishna ji, but from whatever we have seen over the years, we believe that Ram didn’t have a beard or moustache. Hanuman ji’s image is set in people’s minds, how can you make him look like that in the film?” questioned Mukesh Khanna.
He further added, “You cannot change the look of our characters. Saif Ali Khan’s character has been given a Mughal look. Are you making fun? Pardon me for saying it straight, but the film will not work, there will be reactions. With VFX or by spending Rs 100 – Rs 1000 crore you cannot make Ramayan. It is based on the values, characterizations, and performances, dialogues and looks. But you want to make it like Avatar, then don’t claim that you are making Ramayan. Stop saying that this is Ramayan. I want to warn the rich people ‘do not use your money to change our rituals, religion or epics.”
Reacting to the negative responses that the teaser has been receiving, director Om Raut had said in an interview, “I was disheartened for sure, not surprised because the film is made for a larger medium, the big screen. You can cut it down to some extent but can’t bring it down to a mobile phone.” ‘Adipurush’ features Prabhas as Lord Ram, Saif Ali Khan as the Raavan, Kriti Sanon as Sita and Sunny Singh as Lakshman. The mythological drama is slated to hit the screens on January 12, 2023. Source
