It has been a year since veteran actor Rishi Kapoor left for his heavenly abode. And even now, fans of the actor are yet to come to terms with his passing away. The late veteran actor, apart from being a great actor and dancer, also enjoyed music. He would often tell the music composers of his films to make some wonderful music for him. Singer-composer Lalit Pandit (of Jatin-Lalit duo) had worked with the actor on a few films. On his first death anniversary, Lalit Pandit, in an exclusive chat with ETimes, shares some heartwarming memories of the late actor, his fondness for music, and more. Excerpts…
Lalit had composed songs for the film ‘Pyaar Mein Twist‘, which featured Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. “During that time, Rishi ji had told me, ‘Mera gaana accha se karna (Give me good songs)’. He was fond of music and would take a keen interest in film songs, especially those picturised on him. I also created the hit number ‘Main Shaayar Toh Nahi’ for a piano sequence picturised on him in the film ‘Hum Tum’. He loved it!” recounts the composer-singer.
Confessing his love for Rishi Kapoor’s films, Lalit shares, “Rishi ji was known for doing musical films. I have watched and loved the music of ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Hum Kisise Kum Naheen’, to name a few. In fact, even his musical qawwali ‘Parda Hai Parda’. He would put his heart and soul into every song that he was part of. I miss him and the magic that he weaved onscreen”.
Lalit then went on to reveal Rishi wanted the hit composer duo of Jatin-Lalit, to get back after the split and often told them to unite so that they could recreate timeless melodies, “I remember he was the one who had suggested that my brother Jatin and I should start working together (after the split),” informs the composer.
