Jamie mimics Deepika at Oscars, netizens react
Global star Deepika Padukone led the Indian contingent at the red carpet of the 95th Oscars where India won two awards – Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu song from RRR and Best Documentary Short Film for The Elephant Whisperers. While Deepika earned praises for the Indian audience, Johnny Lever’s daughter Jamie Lever decided to pay a tribute to the actress by reimagining her at the Oscars. However, netizens were not convinced with her mimicry.
In the video, Jamie as Deepika can he heard saying, “I’m just very excited and taking it all in. Also, in a way, I’m kind of glad that Ranveer is not here, so it’s my moment to shine.”
She then switches to Kareena Kapoor Khan who is upset over not being invited to the Oscars. She calls up Priyanka Chopra and says, “Kaun hai woh jisne dobara mudke mujhe chance nahi diya ki main Oscars jaoon? By god, this is not fair ya!” She also mimicked Kangana Ranaut and Farah Khan.
While Jamie’s act left everyone in splits and received praises for her impersonation of Kareena, Kangana and Farah, netizens told her that it is difficult to crack Deepika’s personality in order to mimic her. “Sorry but Deepika ka bilkul bhi accha nahi hai 😂 Rest u r brilliant as usual,” one Instagram user said. Another user commented, “It’s really difficult to mimic Deepika 😂but you tried.”
On the Oscars stage, Deepika was dressed in a custom Louis Vuitton black gown and a statement Cartier neckpiece. She introduced the performance of Naatu Naatu on stage. She had to pause at least thrice in between owing to the loud cheers from the audience. She also raved about the song’s popularity on social media highlighting that it is the first song from an Indian production to be nominated for an Oscar. After representing India at Oscars, Deepika returned to Mumbai on Friday.
