Exclusive: Details about Sidharth’s next film
Sidharth Malhotra is smiling from ear to ear. A few days back, he has signed a film which will be helmed by ad-film director Shantanu Baghchi and produced by Amar Butala. ETimes has it that the balance cast is however yet to be decided.
When contacted, Shantanu confirmed the news but said he would talk more only after bringing Butala in the loop. But Butala simply told us in a text message that he is out of town and went silent when we asked him to tell us the details about the film in question and his career shift. All that he added was, “No, I am not with Fox Star Studios (anymore).” A source, however, tells us, “The film starring Sidharth is based on a true event.”
Butala’s earlier stints include UTV Motion Pictures and Balaji Motion Pictures. Post that, he went on to work with Salman Khan Productions as COO on projects like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Hero’ and ‘Tubelight’. But he quite soon quit SKF to join Fox Star Studios in October 2017 wherein he was reporting to the CEO, Vijay Singh in the role of driving content acquisition and alliance agenda for the studio. But after Singh’s much-talked-about exit from Fox Star in March, this year, sources say that Butala has now turned independent producer, though a collaboration with a studio on the Sidharth film is not ruled out. Sidharth, who remained unavailable for comment, is expected to start shooting on the film in the first quarter of 2021.
On the work front, Sidharth has ‘Shershaah’, a biographical war action film directed by Vishnuvardhan and co-produced by Karan Johar. The film is a biopic on the life journey of Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra with Sidharth in a double role as Batra and his identical twin Vishal. Kiara Advani plays the role of Dimple Cheema. ‘Shershaah’ was scheduled to hit theatres on July 3, 2020, but the coronavirus postponed it.
