Ranveer Singh came out in full support of Vijay Deverakonda at the trailer launch of ‘Liger’. The multi-lingual movie features the Telugu star making his Hindi debut with Ananya Panday as his co-star, Puri Jagannadh as director and Karan Johar as producer. The talent associated with the project is a testament to North and South film industries coming together. Naturally, that was the hot topic of debate at the trailer launch.
Of the many questions that were posed to Vijay, the most vocal was the fact that a Bollywood star like Ranveer was promoting the film of a Telugu star making his Hindi debut. Those in attendance wanted to know what Vijay thought of this crossover dynamic. Vijay started off by thanking Ranveer and said, “I thank him for being the
absolute bomb of energy that he is.”
Deverakonda added, “The film industry has always been an industry where technicians from the South have been working in the North. We’ve had actresses from North working down South. Infact, Anil Kapoor made his debut down South, too. Directors from Tamil and Telugu have been making films up North. Sridevi hailed from the South. It’s been an industry which has always been about several industries working with each other.”
He also pointed out that the trend of comparisons and the pan-India debate stems from the growing popularity of South films across the country. Deverakonda explained, “Now we are making cinema that the entire country watches and it’s about time that this happened. I am looking forward to the day when it’s no longer called North and South, it’s just called Indian Cinema and Indian actor. This is what we should look forward to.”
