Tata Motors announced that the company will be expanding their EV lineup with the new Tiago EV. When launched, the Tiago hatchback will be the most affordable electric hatchback in India and is likely to be priced under Rs 10 lakh.
The Tiago EV was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and was expected to hit the Indian roads by 2020. However, the manufacturer did not launch it. Tata currently sells Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV.
Talking about the Tiago EV, the car looks identical to its ICE counterpart, except for the blue accents over the grille, alloys and interior.
As of now, the company has not revealed any information about the car. Mechanically, Tiago EV is expected to be powered by a similar powertrain as the Tigor EV but might undercut it in terms of pricing, opening up more choices for the potential customer.
The upcoming Tiago EV is expected to come with a 26 kWh battery and an electric motor that puts out 74 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque. The battery pack in the Tiago EV is expected to provide a range of up to 310km on a single charge.
Tata recently launched the new Nexon EV Max in the Indian market at Rs 17.74 lakh for the XZ+ variant and goes up to Rs 19.24 lakh for the top-spec Nexon EV Max XZ+ Lux. The Nexon EV Max offers an ARAI-certified range of 437km, thanks to its larger 40.5kWh battery pack.
