Mercedes-Benz India is gearing up to launch its third electric vehicle in India, the EQB SUV, on December 2. The third EV from the luxury automaker for India, the EQB is expected to be the most affordable option in its electric portfolio. The EQB will likely arrive in the country as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units, which will be assembled at the Mercedes-Benz Chakan plant near Pune. This will further enable Mercedes-Benz to keep costs down. Here are the variants and performance specifications that we can expect in the India-bound EQB.
The EQB is offered in three variants in international markets, the 250, 300 and 350. While the entry-spec EQB 250 features a FWD single-motor set up, the 300 and 350 come with the AWD 4MATIC with dual-motors and are more likely the variants which will come to India. The EQB will also be the first EV in the country to offer a 7-seat layout, something that no other automaker is offering yet.
Range and specifications:
Sticking to the EQB 300 and 350, both variants offer the 66.5 kWh battery pack, however, both will feature a different tune of performance on offer. Based on EQB’s sold in global markets, the 300 will generate 228 hp, while the 350 will be more powerful at 292 hp. While there is a considerable difference in power, both the 300 and 350 will likely offer a dual-motor setup and a claimed range of 400 km on a full charge.
The EQB also supports home charging of up to 11 kW through AC points and fast-charging of up to 100 kW via a DC charging point. This gives the EQB a fast-charging time of 0-80 percent in just 32 minutes.
The Mercedes-Benz EQB electric SUV is expected to be launched in India at around Rs 80 lakh. For that price it already falls behind other e-SUVs on sale in India, such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge. The Volvo offers bigger performance and a similar range at a considerably lower price tag of Rs 55.9 lakh ex-showroom. On the other hand, the EQB will offer an extra row of seat.
