NEW DELHI: Mahindra and Mahindra on Wednesday announced that the Thar has crossed 20,000 bookings. The 2nd gen Mahindra Thar is just a month old in the Indian auto market.
The waiting period for the Mahindra Thar now ranges between 5 to 7 months depending upon the variant. According to the automaker, the hard-top variants both automatic and manual (both fuel variants) are particularly facing huge demand.
To counter the massive demand, the automaker is now working on increasing the production capacity both at its Nasik facility and the supplier end to reduce the waiting period for the customers. Instead of the previous 2,000 units per month, Mahindra would now be ramping the capacity up to 3,000 units per month by January.
Mahindra began the deliveries of the 2020 Thar on November 1 and plans to deliver over 500 units in the next weekend.

“We are overwhelmed with this unprecedented response that the All-New Thar has garnered. I must admit the response has surpassed all our expectations and production capacities. Hence the wait for the All-New Thar will be longer than expected. We sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience and unwavering confidence in us,” said Veejay Nakra, CEO, Mahindra Automotive.
