If you had the itch to buy a track-focused SUV, there is a new choice in the market as Lamborghini has brought their Urus Performante to India. The Performante badge is given to Lamborghini’s that go the extra mile when it comes to performance-based tuning and the Urus Performante is no different. It sports a price tag of Rs 4.22 crore (ex-showroom) and gets a lot of upgrades for the extra money.
Lamborghini Urus Performante engine upgrades
Lamborghini Urus Performante gets a 4.0-litre V8 engine
While you get the same 4.0-litre, twin-turbo, V8 engine under the hood, the power figure has been bumped up to 657 hp. This is a modest 16 hp increase over the vanilla Urus but does contribute to a reduction in the 0-100 kmph acceleration time. The SUV now completes the task in 3.3 seconds as opposed to 3.6 seconds. Torque output remains the same at 850 Nm as does the 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. However, the company says that the shifts have been improved.
New suspension setup and setup changes

To help provide a firmer ride, the air suspension has been replaced with coil-over springs. It should improve the handling of the Urus Performante around corners. Even the chassis has seen some modifications as the SUV has a 16 mm wider track and sits 20 mm lower.

While the power increase might be modest, its impact is increased thanks to the weight savings. The use of carbon fibre panels on the bonnet, wheel arches and the front and rear bumper along with a lighter titanium exhaust has shaved off 47 kg. What also helps the cause is the addition of vents on the bonnet and a new rear spoiler. These help improve the aerodynamic efficiency and increase the rear drag by 38%.

Another change is visible when you look at the driving mode selector. You still get the Strada, Sport and Corsa modes but the Neve, Terra and Sabbia modes have been omitted for a Rally mode. This new driving mode eases off the traction control system and also tweaks the suspension response to cope well with dirt tracks.
Urus Performante design changes
Visually, the Urus Performante gets a new design for the front splitter. It also helps channel the air better and even helps with cooling the engine and brakes. On the side, one can see more carbon fibre on the wheel arches and newly designed alloy wheels. Finally, at the back is a new diffuser which again helps in channelling the air in a better manner. The carbon fibre panels make their way inside the cabin too. The Urus Performante comes with Alcantara all around and the seats also get special stitching to reflect the exterior colour.

The story of Urus thus far
Lamborghini Urus has been one of the most successful models for the Italian marquee in recent times. Owing to the rise in popularity of SUVs, the Urus has managed to bring in many new customers to the brand. In fact, according to the company, 84% of Urus buyers in India were first-time Lamborghini customers. While the Urus Performante will be only taken by a few customers, the upcoming Urus S might help with sales numbers again. The more sedate avatar should come to India soon and might replace the regular Urus.
