

Jeep India on Tuesday said it has started production of the all-new Jeep Meridian from its plant at Ranjangaon, Pune. While the deliveries are expected to commence in June, bookings for the SUV have also been opened across Jeep dealerships and on the company’s official website at a token amount of ₹50,000. The company also said that the displays and test drive for the all-new Jeep Meridian SUV will commence from mid of May.
Talking about the Jeep Meridian, Meridian SUV is basically an elongated version of the Compass and will be offered with 4×2 and 4×4 driving configurations.
Talking about the design, the Meridian’s silhouette is similar to the Compass but with a slightly more upright stance. The SUV gets LED headlamps with integrated DRLs similar to Compass, a seven-slat grille, a muscular front bumper with a large air intake, LED fog lamps, side cladding with indicators and newly designed alloy wheels. The rear profile of the Meridian is inspired by the bigger Jeeps including the Grand Wagoneer & the Grand Cherokee.
Similar to the Compass, the Jeep Meridian will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine which produces power of 172 bhp and torque of 350 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic.
The Jeep Meridian is expected to be priced from Rs 19 lakh to 33 lakh. When launched, the Jeep Meridian competes with Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Isuzu MU-X, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, Tata Safari, and Mahindra XUV 700.
