The 2022 Indian Racing League is set to kick off the season with a race on the Hyderabad Street Circuit, the first street circuit in India. The same location is set to play host to the first-ever Formula E race in India too. The Hyderabad Traffic Police announced restrictions around NTR Marg starting from 10 pm on November 16 to 10 pm on November 20, 2022.
2023 is shaping up to be a great year for motorsports enthusiasts in India. First, we got the news that MotoGP will be coming to India and the race will be held at Buddh International Circuit (BIC). Then we got confirmation that Hyderabad will be part of the 2023 Formula E calendar. It will be the first time that India plays host to both sports and bodes well for the future of motor racing in the country. In case you forgot, Formula 1 races were held at BIC from 2011 to 2013 but tax-related disputes led to the sport not returning to India since then.
Compared to a race track, a street circuit tends to demand more focus due to the lack of a run-off area, narrower lanes and more technical turns. Street tracks around the world can punish drivers for the smallest of mistakes and it would be interesting to see how they react to the new Hyderabad Street Circuit. It is a relatively short 2.37km track and consists of eight turns in total.
Now, the first-ever Formula E race in India will be held on February 11, 2023. Ahead of the main event, the Indian Racing League will host its first event on the same street track. It consists of four races in total and the first one is being held in Hyderabad. Other locations in the calendar include the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) and the Madras International Circuit (MIC). Races will include Formula 3 cars from six city-based teams – Bangalore Speedsters, Chennai Turbo Riders, Goa Aces, Godspeed Kochi, Hyderabad Blackbirds, Speed Demons Delhi.
