Severe heatwaves continue to sweep across parts of North India, making it extremely difficult to step out of the house. However, if you have no other choice than to get inside your car and get going, it’s always better to cool it down before you are on the move. Nonetheless, entering a vehicle that has been sitting under direct sunlight can be a very unpleasant experience.
Here are a few measures to take if you want to cool your car down quickly –
Find a ‘cool’ parking spot
First and foremost, if you have the option of parking your car under a shade, then it’s always advisable to do so in order to keep the temperature inside the car in check. This will save you the hassle of having to cool the cabin of your car down every time. However, not everyone has this privilege, and if you’re someone who unfortunately doesn’t, we suggest you to take a look at the following steps.
Use the remote start feature (if applicable)
A host of cars in India are now offered with the remote start feature on the top-end variants. Apart from turning the car on, most manufacturers also provide the ability to turn your car’s climate control on with the help of a connected app mostly. If your car has this feature, you may use it a few minutes before you’re about to leave to make sure the cabin is cool and comfortable even in this hot weather.
Open the doors and windows before stepping in
Before you step inside the car, make sure to roll down all the windows to let the heat escape from your vehicle. If possible, also open the doors of your car and start ‘fanning’ by swinging them. This will make the hot air move out of your vehicle quickly.
Turn on the air conditioner
If your car does not have the remote start feature, the next step after rolling the windows down and after ‘fanning’ is to turn on the air conditioner manually. It’s advisable to select the coldest setting in the climate control, and set the blower (fan) speed to max. What’s more, you can use the external air function of the vehicle instead of the recirculation option to further speed up the process of cooling. Keep the windows of the car rolled down initially to evacuate the hot air trapped inside the cabin of the car.
Activate the foot air vents
To further ease the process of cooling your car that has been standing in the scorching heat for hours, you may turn on the foot air vents. How this works is, the air conditioner of your car blows cooler denser air to the bottom of the car’s cabin, forcing hot air to rise up and out of your vehicle when the windows are rolled down. Not many people are aware about this, but switching the foot air vents on is one of the most effective ways to cool down your car, even if you’re on a move.
Keep windows rolled down while driving
If your car’s cabin is still hot even after following the steps mentioned so far, it’s better to keep the windows down while travelling. If you can not roll them completely down, you may keep them open partially to let the hot air leave the cabin gradually. As the heat inside the cabin dissipates, you can roll the windows back up and set the climate control to the desired temperature or setting. Source
