In June this year, BMW had revealed that it would be launching 10 exclusive ’50 Jahre M Edition’ versions across product portfolio to mark 50 years of BMW’s M performance division. The M340i and 6 Series were the first two cars to receive the ’50 Jahre M Edition’ makeover, and now, it’s time for the 5 Series to get the same treatment as well.
BMW has launched the 5 Series ’50 Jahre M Edition’ at Rs 67.50 lakh in India. The special edition will only be offered with the 530i M Sport variant of the luxury sedan. Do note that the standard BMW 530i M Sport is priced at Rs 64.50 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom), which makes the 530i M Sport ’50 Jahre M Edition’ Rs 3 lakh costlier.
So what exactly does the additional money get you? For starters, the 530i M Sport 50 Jahre M Edition comes with four exterior colour options – Alpine White, Carbon Black, Phytonic Blue Bernina Grey Amber and Alpine White. The changes over the standard 5 Series include darkened LED headlamps, gloss black kidney grille and window surrounds, as well as 18-inch M Jet Black alloy wheels with red brake calipers.
The model also gets M emblems on the outside, including BMW Motorsport logo on the alloy wheel hub caps that semicircles in blue, purple and red. On the inside, the 5 Series 50 Jahre M Edition is equipped with sportier seats featuring Cognac upholstery with contrast stitching, a piano black finish on the centre console and black ceramic surround for the controls.
Powering the car is the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the standard 530i M Sport. This engine puts out 252 hp of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque, and is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. BMW claims that the 530i M Sport can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
