The Maruti Suzuki Alto has been the most accessible car in the Indian market since years. However, it’s been almost a decade since the second-gen version of the entry-level hatch has been on sale in the market, which means it’s high time for an update. Well, it seems like Maruti Suzuki finally has a new-gen version of the Alto on the cards.
Maruti Suzuki has sent out a block-your-date invitation for August 18 on behalf of Maruti Suzuki Arena. No, it is not the new Grand Vitara, since the SUV will be retailed through the company’s premium Nexa dealerships. The new car is indeed expected to be the 2022 new-gen Alto considering the fact that Maruti Suzuki has no other car lined up for an immediate release and the new Alto has already been seen in spy shots.
However, Maruti Suzuki has not yet confirmed the date as the launch date for the new Alto. That said, it seems certain the Alto will be launched towards the end of August and the date most likely seems to be August 18th but could range up to the 22nd as well.
The updated car was recently spied during a TVC shoot, revealing a range of cosmetic updates over the current-gen model. As per the spy shots, the new Alto seems to have grown in size, looking taller than the model it is set to replace. The new-gen version of the hatchback also gets a redesigned rear-end with restyled tail lamps that look similar to the ones seen on the 2022 Celerio.
Powering the Alto will quite likely be the same 796 cc three-cylinder NA petrol engine but it could feature some optimisation and calibration upgrades. Maruti Suzuki might also re-introduce the Alto K10 moniker with the new 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that performs duties on the recently launched 2022 S-Presso. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard, while an optional automatic transmission could also be included. This most likely will be the same AGS (AMT) unit used in the Celerio.
