Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday embarked on his US visit after wrapping up France trip. Both PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron shared a hug at the airport in Marseille, France before PM Modi left for the second leg of his visit. In the US, PM Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in both restricted and delegation-level formats. Modi will be the fourth foreign leader to visit Trump in the weeks after the American leader’s inauguration as the 47th President of the US in January. 

PM Modi holds bilateral talks with Emmanuel Macron

In France, during the bilateral talks, Modi and Macron on Wednesday called for enhancing trade and investment ties between the two countries and committed to further deepening their engagement in the Indo-Pacific and various global forums and initiatives. Modi and Macron jointly inaugurated India’s new consulate in France’s Marseille.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi co-chaired the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and addressed the 14th India-France CEOs Forum in Paris. During his visit to France, Modi also met US Vice President J D Vance and his Indian-origin wife along with their two young sons.

Trump adiministration prioritising ties with India: Former White House official

On Tuesday, in an online press briefing on Tuesday hosted by Washington DC-based think tank The Centre for a New American Security (CNAS) on the eve of Modi’s visit, former White House official Lisa Curtis said that the Trump administration is prioritising relations with India. 

These remarks were made by Lisa Curtis ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the White House for a bilateral meeting with President Trump on Thursday. She has served in President Donald Trump’s first administration as the senior director for South and Central Asia in the National Security Council between 2017 and 2021.
